LOCUS Flow Router

LOCUS Flow Routers combine piping hardware with advanced control software,
creating an integration and control platform for HPWH systems.

How It Works

Using internal pumps and valves, LOCUS Flow Routers establish
versatile flow paths between water heaters and storage tanks —
eliminating complex piping networks that demand significant design and field installation efforts.
By managing water flows using intelligent algorithms,
LOCUS control software optimizes system performance.

Plug-and-Play Integration

Using LOCUS Flow Routers, HPWH systems are easy to design and install. By simply connecting water heaters and storage tanks to a LOCUS Flow Router, a HPWH system is created. With different models of LOCUS Flow Router, system design solutions for applications in a wide range of multifamily and commercial buildings are available.

System-Level Control

Powered by versatile water flow management capabilities, LOCUS flow routers provide a system-level control to achieve overall system performance objectives. The flow-based control technology is compatible with all water heater and hot water storage products, providing an universal control solution for HPWH systems.

Performance Optimization

Using intelligent control algorithms, LOCUS flow routers accomplish two levels of system performance optimization: maximizing system efficiency and achieving load flexibility controls to minimize energy cost, greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), and negative grid impacts. Supported by internet of things (IoT)-based data communication protocols, load flexibility controls optimize system performance by responding to time-varying electricity rates from utility companies, the California Energy Commission’s MIDAS system, and other signal sources for grid-interactive operation.

Performance Monitoring and
Fault Detection

LOCUS flow routers are equipped with temperature and flow sensors for comprehensive performance monitoring.
The benefits in terms of reduced energy use, costs, and GHG emissions are continuously assessed and reported. Furthermore, system operation issues are automatically detected and communicated to operators, supporting preventive maintenance to ensure hot water service reliability while minimizing maintenance costs.

Thermal Energy Storage Management

LOCUS stands for Load Optimization Control Using Storage.
LOCUS Flow Router technology supports the integration and control of
thermal energy storage in water heating, space heating, and cooling applications,
achieving load flexibility that reduces building energy costs and enhances sustainability.
